The GCA have continued to receive questions on trading internationally post-Brexit, thank you to all of you who have contacted us; hearing your questions has enabled us to understand where the issues are and assemble a Panel to respond:
Our Panel in April 2021 consisted of
Richard Asquith, VP, Global Indirect Tax at Avalara.
Emily Lambert, from the Department for International Trade
Tom Dixon, an E-commerce Specialist, also from the Department for International Trade.
John Welsh – founder of 2WL, industry logistics experts and GCA Member.
Daniel Prince, MD of Danilo and GCA Council Member
David Falkner, Director of Cardology, and GCA Member
Topics covered include suppling small orders to the EU, particularly the VAT changes due summer 2021: From July 2021 all orders under £150 will need to charge VAT. Import One Stop Shop (IOSS), should help small traders, selling goods directly to consumers, with this. Richard Asquith, from tax experts Avalara, explains what this means, how and where to register for IOSS, and the benefits of IOSS to businesses.
Emily Lambert and Tom Dixon from the DIT, and Richard, all speak about the help available on this and other export issues. The discussion includes when you need to appoint an ‘Intermediary’ (previously a ‘Fiscal Representative’) to act for you and how to find one. Do contact your local DIT for guidance. Also Avalara offer support on this, act as an ‘Intermediary’ and can handle international compliance and filings, to contact Avalara visit their website, phone 01273 022400 or email orren.wileman@avalara.com. The GCA will keep the main Brexit update blog updated as we receive more information. Also see the GCA Starting Up in Export post for more details on exporting.
Other key points covered:
Do look at the Governments Business Support Grant. This is available to companies that have been exporting to Europe before Brexit, see our main Brexit update blog for more information. This grant can help you cover the costs of training and professional advice.
Emily Lambert and Tom Dixon both speak about the broad range of free government help and support available and how to access it. Emily talks about the DIT Export Academy, an informative webinar series aimed at small businesses in certain areas of the country. Tom explains the support available from the DIT for e-commerce.
Watch our Panel Discussion below to see the detail on all these areas and more, as our Panellists discuss Members’ questions and share their own experiences and useful tips.
